Melbourne Cup & Bold Trease Review
Dynamic Dyna Tron
18 November 2011
Andrea Dailly claimed her first Solo Melbourne Cup at Sandown Park tonight when Dyna Tron led all the way to win Australia’s most prestigious race in a race record 29.21 seconds.
Favourite Bekim Bale ($3) found early trouble before recovery brilliantly to finish a close up fourth behind Allen Elroy ($13.60).
“In the last three or four weeks he’s just been jumping out of his skin,” said kennel representative George Dailly.
“He’s been racing in tremendous form of late and looked well boxed out in box 7.”
Indeed, coming into the Melbourne Cup, Dyna Tron had had six career starts from box 7, winning three and being placed in three others. His most recent start from the box saw him land the Group 2 Geelong Cup in early November.
The win capped a remarkable night for leviathan New South Wales breeder Paul Wheeler. Having bred the first seven past the post in the Solo Melbourne Cup, Dyna Tron’s victory was one of four winners for the family on the night – three of which were trained by Andrea Dailly.
“It’s been a real family effort,” said Dyna Tron’s owner Brendan Wheeler.
“This win didn’t happen overnight, it’s taken years and years and we can’t thank our trainers enough. They all work very, very hard for this to happen.”
The win was the Wheeler family’s second Solo Melbourne Cup success, having previously won the Cup in 1999 with Greyhound Racing Victoria Hall OF Fame member Kantarn Bale.
A member of the brilliant Collision-Gold Rush Bale litter, the win improved Dyna Tron’s record to 21 wins from 42 starts, and the $200,000 winner’s cheque too his career prizemoney to $317,580.
After the placings the field finished in the following order 4th Bekim Bale ($3.00), 5th Numero Uno Bale ($10.30), 6th Bala Bale ($16.50) 7th Dyna Morris ($32.30) and Enry Walt ($16.80).
Dyna Tron is a Red Brindle dog whelped February 2009 by Collision from Gold Rush Bale (Lansley Bale x Jindara Bale). He is raced by Brendan Wheeler and trained by Andrea Dailly from Anakie in Victoria. Dyna Tron has raced 42 times for 21 wins and nine placings with his win in the Melbourne Cup the $200,000 first prize took his current stake earnings to $317,580.

Earlier in the night, Zipping Malfoy caused the upset of the night to win the Group 1 Bold Trease Carnival Cup.
A son of Malfoy, a Bold Trease Carnival Cup finalist in 2004, Zipping Malfoy ($34.90) jumped straight to the front and was never headed, he raced through the sections in 6.09, 15.63, and 30.28 stopping the clock in a slick 41.79 seconds.
Second favourite Echelon ($3.50) flashed home for the runners up position with the ever consistent Slick Lee ($22.20) third in his 20th Group final and his 100th start. He finished third in last years final behind So Seductive.
The win was by far the biggest of Zipping Malfoy’s career, and he shapes as a very likely stayer with more Group wins in sight judging by his performance of sustained front running on display in the Bold Trease.
After the placings the field finished in the following order 4th Ebby Miss ($40.60), 5th Granduer ($3.40), 6th Bling It On ($3.50) 7th Zipping Lad ($5.10) and Robert Andrew ($42.20).
Zipping Malfoy is raced by Terry Kingcott and trained by Anthony Azzopardi of Londonderry in New South Wales. He is a Fawn dog whelped August 2009 by Malfoy from Or Catra (Brett Lee x Gold Serenade) Zipping Malfoy has raced 25 times for six wins and nine placings and with the $75,000 first prize for the Bold Trease Carnival Cup his overall stake earnings went to $90,850.
Zipping Malfoy is to strong in the Bold Trease
The night was a tremendous success for the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club and was a fitting finale for its Sky Channel Superdogs Series.
The largest crowd seen on course for over a decade was a fitting reward for the hard working administration, catering and track staff at Sandown. The team led by CEO Greg Miller introduced a number of changes to how Cup night was run and promoted this year and the results were evident for all to see. The big crowd enjoyed a wonderful night of excitement and atmosphere plus a host of entertainment and action. They all helped the Club top $1 million in TAB turnover on a meeting for the fifth time in as many years. The overall figures were an industry record.
