ASTON Rupee has breezed into the Group 1 Adelaide Cup Final with a powerhouse performance in Thursday night’s TAB Match Race Challenge (530m) at Angle Park.
Stepping out for the first time since his track record romp at Sandown Park in a remarkable 28.79, Aston Rupee put on a show at his Angle Park debut, defeating Rushes in his match race by 6 ½ lengths in a flying 29.95.
The 29.95 winning time – the first occasion 30 seconds has been lowered at the new Angle Park circuit – was more than enough to secure the $7,500-to-the-winner series for the Glenn Rounds-trained superstar.
Finishing second was fellow Victorian Weblec Blazer which recorded 30.15 in his match race victory while Stout Monelli filled third, also successful in his match race.
Aston Rupee’s slashing victory means the son of Kc And All will be absent from next week’s Adelaide Cup heats and gain a straight passage through to the $100,000-to-the-winner finale on Friday, October 8.
Tab.com.au have installed two-time Group 3 Speed Star hero Aston Rupee a piping hot $1.70 to secure the Adelaide Cup and the first Group 1 of his career.
In 27 starts, Aston Rupee has won 15 and been placed on another 11 occasions.
His only time out of a place was a fourth placed finish.
Without doubt the fastest greyhound on the planet, it would seem only bad luck is in between Aston Rupee and a breakthrough Group 1 triumph in two weeks time.
